Gather your ingredients and supplies
Collect all the necessary ingredients such as lye, water, oils, and any desired additives. Also, gather the appropriate supplies including a heat-resistant bowl, a thermometer, a stick blender, and soap molds.
Mix the lye and water
Carefully mix the lye into the water in a well-ventilated area, wearing protective gear. Allow the mixture to cool while taking necessary safety precautions.
Melt the oils
Combine and heat the oils in a separate container until they are completely melted and well mixed.
Combine the lye solution and oils
Slowly pour the lye solution into the melted oils while stirring continuously. Use a stick blender to thoroughly mix the ingredients until they reach trace, a stage where the mixture thickens.
Add essential oils or other additives (optional)
If desired, add essential oils or other additives to the soap mixture at this stage. Stir well to ensure even distribution.
Pour the mixture into molds
Pour the soap mixture into molds, tapping them gently to release any air bubbles. Smooth the top of the soap with a spatula if necessary.
Let the soap cure
Allow the soap to cure in the molds for 24-48 hours. Once firm, remove the soap from the molds and let it cure for an additional 4-6 weeks before using.
